Progressive
Business Practices:
Honouring the equally important and interdependent relations of our customers,
our staff, and the health of the business itself.
Traditional Comfort Food With a Healthy Twist:
We’re not shy about admitting that our food is downright amazing.
We offer traditional American diner food with all the salty, sweet yumminess you love, but prepared in a health-conscious manner. We use trans-fat free oil for cooking, and all our burgers
are cholesterol free!
Environmentally Sustainable:
From using biodegradable to-go products to buying locally and organically,
to becoming a locally certified Green Business, we acknowledge that each
and every person and business must strive to minimize or eliminate our
impacts on the planet.
According to a recent study by the UN 18 percent of global warming emissions
come from raising livestock for meat. That's 40 percent more than all
the world's cars, SUVs, airplanes, and other modes of fossil-based transportation,
which combined account for 13 percent.

Switching to vegetables one day per week cuts the equivalent of driving
1160 miles per year. http://www.organicconsumers.org/articles/article_11662.cfm
By the very nature of offering a vegetarian menu, we estimate that our
customers lessen their impact on climate change by the equivalent of nearly
500,000,000 miles per year of driving.
Socially Responsible:
As business owners we make decisions every day that affect others, we
believe it is our obligation to run our company with the triple bottom
line philosophy. Our commitment to using organics, is not just health
based for our customers, but is also part of our dedication to the workers
who produce the food we purchase. We are proud to be anti-war, pro gay
marriage and in favor of raising the minimum wage. We know these are not
traditional or even advisable statements for a business to make, but we
also know that we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Diversity:
Saturn Café Inc. was founded by a queer woman and a Latino man,
both of whom come from strong backgrounds of activism, art and alternative
communities. We are ambitious and creative individuals whose tattooed
and non-traditional exteriors don’t necessarily fit the mold of
typical American business-people. We are committed to creating a community
that, like ourselves, reflects the diverse world that most of us actually
live in.
Community:
We are committed to both creating a neighborhood space as well as being
active participants in our community by donating to local non-profits.
Fun:
As Emma Goldman once said, “If I can’t dance, I don’t
want to be part of your revolution”. It is our belief that joy is
an essential ingredient to a successful progressive business, and arguably,
to life. We purposefully create an atmosphere that encourages all who
enter to celebrate in the food they eat, and with the people they eat
with.
