Bay Area M.C. Gift of Gab says our Fakin’ Bacon is “slamming”

December 22nd, 2011

A huge thank you to Blackalicious’ MC Gift of Gab for talking up the Saturn Cafe during his interview with eater.com:

“With the vegetarian spots, it’s all about what you get. It’s evolved so much — especially in California — to the point where you can go get stuff and it can taste like meat or better than meat.

There’s this place in Berkeley called the Saturn Cafe, and it’s all vegetarian. I like to eat breakfast there a lot. I’ll get an egg white omelette with avocado, potatoes, and a side order of fake bacon. The Fakin’ Bacon is an acquired taste, but it is slamming. I also like to get the taquito plate with things like soy meat.”

Couldn’t have said it better.  You can read the full article here and check out Gift of Gabs Official Website.

Book Release, Reading and Signing of The Ballad of Young Tam Lin with author Patricia A. Leslie

November 7th, 2011

The Space Lounge at the Saturn Cafe Berkeley is proud to host the book release, reading, and signing of The Ballad of Young Tam Lin with author Patricia A. Leslie Thursday, November 10, 6:30-9 p.m.

Come enjoy a reading, listen to live Scottish music and get your copy of the book all while enjoying the delicious comfort food Saturn Cafe is famous for.

The Ballad of Young Tam Lin is 561 pages of wit, romance, and lighthearted family drama. Strongly inspired by the original old Scottish ballad, set in 1790, and written in the spirit of Jane Austen as a historical comedy of manners, the story is blended with paranormal elements derived from real mythology, Celtic folklore, and contemporary metaphysical wisdom, with a dash of Shakespeare’s ‘Midsummer’ blended in.

Take Action: Stop Monsanto’s Sweet Corn

October 17th, 2011

Monsanto’s genetically engineered sweet corn may be set to hit the market this fall. Genetically engineered sweet corn, the first Monsanto crop designed to be consumed by people, is genetically engineered to produce pesticides and resist herbicides.

Bill Freese, a science policy analyst at Center for Food Safety told Fast Company “There’s a concern with these GE crops that we eat with minimal processing [like sweet corn]…we’re exposed to a lot more of whatever is in it versus a processed corn product,”  A study earlier this year found that pregnant women and their fetuses were contaminated with pesticides associated with GE food. Last year, researchers in France found that GE crops had numerous adverse health effects.

Help make sure GE Sweet Corn is not sold by signing Food & Water Watch’s petition to grocery stores. they’ll be delivering this petition to the top ten grocery store chains in the country in an attempt to stop GE Sweet Corn from reaching consumers.
