Meatless Monday & The Saturn Cafe

Sunday, July 17th, 2011

The Saturn Cafe is proud to support the Meatless Monday campaign in their mission to improve health, reduce the carbon footprint and reduce climate change by promoting “going meatless” once a week.  As you know, the Saturn Cafe is meatless all week, every week – but we feel like our unique menu can work great for folks who eat meat, but would like to cut out or reduce the amount of meat they eat.  If you or someone you know could benefit from cutting out the meat, once a week, bring them by the Saturn Cafe this Monday and show them what a delicious experience vegetarian food can be.  Some tried-and true meat-eater favorites include:

  • Space Cowboy Burger
  • Chix Avocado Club
  • Jalapeno Burger

Take Action: Tell Psychology Today to Apologize

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

Satoshi Kanazawa just wrote an article called Why Are Black Women Rated Less Physically Attractive Than Other Women, But Black Men Are Rated Better Looking Than Other Men? The article, billed early on as racist hogwash, got so much negative attention when it was posted Sunday on Psychology Today that it had been taken down by Monday afternoon. (You can see screenshots of it at BuzzFeed.)

Please join us in demanding that psychology today apologize and make sure they don’t do anything like this again:

Uganda shelves anti-gay bill

Monday, May 16th, 2011

On Friday, Uganda’s parliament shelved an anti-gay bill that would have imposed the death penalty for certain homosexual acts.

It looked sure to pass last week, but after 1.6 million petition signatures delivered to Parliament, tens of thousands of phone calls to our own governments, hundreds of media stories about our campaign and a massive global outcry, Ugandan politicians dropped the bill!

Books not bars – Close Youth Prisons, Keep Schools Open

Friday, May 6th, 2011

Did you know California ranks near the bottom in education spending and performance, but we’re #1 in prison spending. DJJ (Division of Juvenile Justice)  drains much-needed resources from California’s schools and the vital community programs that would help our State thrive. It’s time to close the expensive, abusive DJJ and redirect those resources into our schools. Click here to take action now and send a message to governor Jerry Brown telling him to close DJJ youth prisons, not schools.

Earth Day 2011

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

The Saturn Cafe was out in full force at this year’s Earth Day in San Lorenzo park.   A huge thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth to enjoy some of our homemade cupcakes and talk to our very own FOH Manager Clint Hughey (pictured).  We are thrilled to be a part of such a fun event, and look forward to doing it again next year.  Until then we will be striving to minimize or eliminate our impact on the planet everywhere we can, and continue do our part to help save the planet, 365 days a year.
